La Guardia, Fiorello
(1882-1947)
   American politician. Born in New York City, he was educated in Prescott, Arizona. Later his family went to Budapest where he obtained employment in the US consulate. On his return to the US, he opened a law office. He later became New York State deputy attorney general, and was elected to Congress in 1916. In 1932 he became mayor of New York. Subsequently he became director general of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration.
